Discipline with Godly Love August 14, 2009

It is very sad that it got so bad and it took this situation for us to realize our kids are growing up and there is absolutely nothing we can do.  We will not always be there to protect them and know everything that they do but we are going to do everything we can right now to pour into their lives and teach them what is right.  We began to sit down to breakfast and dinner together and have discussions & devotion time again.  We found ourselves so busy that we let these things go.  Every night before the kids went to bed we always pray a blessing over them.  We’ve done this ever since they were babies and they will not go to bed now unless we have prayed for them.  I realized it is going to take more than a prayer at night in this day and time that we live in to help our children. It is our responsibility as parents to guide them and discipline them when they stray, but in a Godly way.  Kirk and I always sit down with our children and talk out why they were punished and even let them help us decide the best punishment for them will be.  So they completely understand.  Discipline has to be consistent not just when you feel like it.  If you are angry, never approach your child.  Cool down, think through your next step, and never raise your voice. Be calm.  Is discipline easy?  No, of course not but our children deserve to be taught what is right.  Respect is one thing we emphasize and we will not tolerate our children showing disrespect to anyone.  With the kids school schedule and extra activities it is going to be hard but I am determined that if we never watch another TV show we will make time to teach them at home.  It is not the church’s responsibility to raise our children; the church is to reinforce what the parents are teaching them.

Proverbs 22:6 (New International Version)
6 Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it.

If you are new to my blog please go back to the beginning to understand each day of my blog.  It begins when Kirk and I were married and tells each move and how God used us and was always preparing us for the next phase of LIFE!  May God Bless You in Your walk in this LIFE!!!!!
