October 16, 2009 – Winshape Couples Retreat - Kirk spoke at a couples’ retreat at Winshape Marriage Retreat located near Rome, GA for Mount Paran North and we stayed the night. This is one area of ministry that I consider very important because Satan would like to do everything he can to destroy marriages and families. If you feel your marriage is in danger find a marriage seminar to attend or seek help. Many times marriages that are struggling are a lack of communication. When was the last time you sat down and told your spouse your true feelings, not yelling at them telling them how they do everything wrong but in a calm manner sharing with one another? When Kirk and I first got married it was the hardest thing for me to tell him how I was feeling because I did not like confrontation. Finally I got up the courage to write it on paper and give it to him, which was the beginning stage of communication for us. I would hold things in and not share, when I didn’t like things, when I had a gut full I would go to the extreme because I held all the past things in. So therefore all those things built up and I would explode when I felt like I couldn’t take anything else. He had no idea and we couldn’t work on the problem when he didn’t know there was a problem to fix. It became easier for me when we talked about our day and how we felt about certain things. Keeping the lines of communication open is so important in a healthy relationship so when the problems come it is easier to share. Now I probably tell Kirk a little too much some timesJ Spend time with your spouse and when you go on a date don’t talk about the kids. (At first, we found ourselves when we did get time away, we were talking about things the kids did, but now we use that time to share about us.) I pray for all my blog viewers that you will have healthy relationships, open communication with your spouse and as God builds and restores your relationship He will use your marriage to help restore other marriages.
October 17, 2009 – We made it back from Winshape in time to take Brad & his friends to their football game at Sequoyah High School. We sat in the rain and cold to watch Brad. Burrrrrrr!!!!! I was so glad to get home and sit by the fire to thaw my fingers and toes out! Yes, we will do almost anything for our children.
October 29, 2009 – It is amazing how God uses people to uplift you when you really need it. Today I received a text message from a friend in Bungoma, Kenya. God knew I needed to be encouraged and he used my special friend:) God is just awesome like that! He will send encouragement in the most unusual, unexpected ways. He loves and cares for us that much! That evening after Brad’s football practice they presented awards to the football players. We were so proud of Brad in how far he came in football this year.
October 31, 2009 – We were up way too early on a Saturday morning, heading to Brad’s football game (playoffs) in the pouring rain. Another rainy and cold day! Later that evening Kirk and I took the kids trick-or-treating with some of their friends in the neighborhood.
SCRIPTURE: However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself,
and the wife must respect her husband.
