May 7, 2000 our beautiful daughter, Lauren was born (9 pounds 14 ounces). She is our miracle baby. The doctors had to do an emergency cesarean section. The umbilical cord was prolapsed (it was trapped under her head during contractions and the blood supply was cut off to her) and they did not think she was going to make it. She was born and the first thing the doctor could say was “She’s a Whopper!”
The day after she was born our son Bradley caught rotavirus and then passed it along to Kirk so they could not come back to the hospital. Gina, Kirk’s sister, stayed with me and Lauren when we came home from the hospital. Guess what? I got rotavirus too—not good after having a C-section. Well, it didn’t stop with me because I passed it on to Gina. (Larry and Gina are Bradley and Lauren’s second parents. We loved living close to them and being in ministry together.) Lauren was the only one (thank God) that did not get this virus.
The day after we brought Lauren home, Bradley asked “when we were going to take her back?” Obviously, he was not getting all the attention he once did. Someone had invaded his territory.
15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15
