Our First Year March 1, 2009

Kirk was working long hours.  7:00 in the morning until 8:00 in the evening.  What we didn’t really understand opening a store meant longer hours just to create enough income. He would get home and I, the wonderful wife that I was, would have Hamburger Helper ready for supper—cooking was not one of my gifts. I was at home all day by myself with no one to talk to; so when he came home, I was bouncing off the walls wanting to play tennis, go walking—those kinds of things to burn off some energy. All he wanted to do was eat and go to bed. He was trying to get a business started and I was home cleaning a clean house and we were eight hours away from family and friends. It was the best thing looking back. Kirk and I grew to love and trust each other even more because all we had was each other. We had to trust God for everything because the money coming in was not adding up to what all our bills were. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:4-6

We lived in Valdosta for a year. While we were there we attended Forrest Street Church of God. Kirk and I were involved in the Youth Ministry and I got a job as an orthodontist assistant, which I loved. The orthodontist taught me to take teeth impressions, adjust wires, put on bands, and assist in putting braces on. It was a cool job until you had a kid that didn’t like to brush their teeth or would gag and throw up when you did impressions.

LIFE was great—we were living on hamburger helper, love and God’s provision.
