Thursday, May 18, 2006 (Surgery day – Lumpectomy)
A lumpectomy, which is the surgery I underwent, is when the surgeon removes the cancerous area and a surrounding margin of normal tissue.
God was right beside me and I was not nervous and the “JOY of the Lord is my Strength.” I truly know what this scripture means.
My parents, Kirk’s parents, my sister and her kids were there for support. Kirk said Pastor James Byrd dropped by. My memory prior to the surgery includes: an extremely cold room, hospital staff moving about, Dr. Corgan asking how I was, and then deep sleep. I awoke in the recovery room. Dr. Corgan was there and said everything went great. Kirk came in to help me get dressed and took me home to recover.
Though I could not use my left arm well for a few weeks, my mom stayed with us for a few days to help me while I recovered.
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord.
Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10
Scary days of LIFE.
