Who Influences Your Child? August 13, 2009

There was a situation where we caught Brad in the act of lying and could prove it.  Brad got a cell phone a week before his 11th Birthday, March 25, 2009.  We thought Middle School would be a great time to get one.  (I am not telling you when you should get your child a cell phone that is your call) This was our experience with the cell phone.  I will never forget this day, it was Thursday morning, April 16, 2009 and I remember calling Kirk while he was on his way to work discussing my concern about how much Brad had been lying to us but we couldn’t prove it.  My Mom & Dad came in that afternoon visiting from Mississippi to watch Lauren practice softball and Bradley got very angry at me because I would not let his friend go to a football meeting with us that night.  While we were at the ball field Brad kept sending me text that he hated me, after the 4th text I sent him one to bring me the phone.  I took the phone and didn’t say anything.  Kirk was at work and I could not get in touch with him until practice was over and we were going to O’Charley’s to eat.  I explained everything to him and also explained that I found an inappropriate text to one of his friends about me.  On the way home Brad wanted to ride with Kirk, not sure if that was really what he wanted to do.  Brad did not know that I had talked to Kirk.  Kirk asked him did he send that text to his friend and Brad denied it several times.  Kirk took Brad’s phone out and started calling someone.  Brad asked who are you calling? Kirk said, your friend to see if he received this text.  He then admitted to texting the message.  We then realized that he was not mature enough to have a phone yet.  We took the cell phone away for good because the text he sent was inappropriate and he was grounded two weeks for being disrespectful to me (no TV, no friends, no video games, he could only listen to Christian music, we thought only good things needed to go into his mind at this point) and corporal punishment for lying.  Kirk talked to Brad and then I talked to Brad and told him if he could not be the influencer to his friends then he did not need to hang around them anymore.  Summer came and he didn’t see his friends all summer because he had been busy traveling and his friends had been away and I have seen the biggest change in Brad…for the good over the summer.  Of course lots of prayer!!!!!!

Proverbs 12:17 (The Message)
17 Truthful witness by a good person clears the air,
but liars lay down a smoke screen of deceit.

If you are new to my blog please go back to the beginning to understand each day of my blog.  It begins when Kirk and I were married and tells each move and how God used us and was always preparing us for the next phase of LIFE!  May God Bless You in Your walk in this LIFE!!!!!
